Penguin Danny DeVito in character of the Penguin in Batman Returns. In 2019, Joaquin Phoenix played the supervillain in Joker, a film that presented a different origin story and gave a more sympathetic portrayal of the character. The character has been portrayed in films by prominent actors, including Jack Nicholson in Batman (1989), Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight (2008) and Jared Leto in Suicide Squad (2016) and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021). The Joker often relies on toxins to make his victims laugh to death. He relies on his ability to manipulate smaller criminals for hit jobs and uses customised weapons. However, like Batman, the Joker has no special powers. In most comic books and movies, the disfigurement is presented as the effect of the Joker falling into a chemical vat - an incident that also drove him insane. His most identifiable characteristics are chalk-white skin, green hair and a permanent rictus across his face. Additionally, the origin of the Joker has also been modified by various filmmakers and comic book writers. The Joker first appeared in the DC comic book Batman #1 in 1940 and has undergone some changes when it comes to his appearance. He is the exact opposite of everything the superhero stands for and has, on occasions, caused pain, suffering and even death to the Caped Crusader’s near and dear ones. ![]() ![]() The ultimate Batman villain is a deranged psychopath who acts as more of an agent of chaos than an organised criminal.Īlso known as the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker is the arch-enemy of the Dark Knight - one capable of such unthinkable evil that can make even Batman shudder. ![]() This is especially true for one of the greatest supervillains of all time… Joker Heath Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight. How does ‘file’ determine MIME Type?Īnswers to this question has some useful information: And I am going to uncover that today, starting with the file utility which seems to have different answers to different programs. Maybe echo writes the mimetype as a metadata onto the disk because echo is a system utility and it knows to do that and in Python the user (me) doesn’t know how to? Clearly the operating system utilities are a cabal of some forbidden knowledge. What? file doesn’t recognise file extensions? The OS conspiracy theory Some_file_2.txt: application/octet-stream Don’t the OSes warn when we touch the extension part of the files while renaming, all the time? So, how does file utility do this on a files without any extension? I thought operating systems usually use the file extension to decide the file type, by extension the mime type. After all, MIME stands for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions I thought MIME Type is only relevant in the context of web server and clients. ![]() I didn’t know the file utility can be used to get the mime-type of the file. When I saw this question on StackOverflow, I was really stumped due to the following reasons: What’s the difference? For the impatientĮcho adds a new line to file which tells the file utility it is a text file. ![]() But, when you do the same in Python byĪnd then check the MIME type it would say application/octet-stream. ![]() When you do echo "x" > my_file and then check its MIME type using file -mime-type my_file it would say text/plain. Be prepared, because they are disgusting. Expect the tumor to be pink or reddish in color with a smooth top. They have a slightly menacing look that tends to put dog owners in a state of panic. The adult coat will be coarse, hard to the touch, never soft and more like human hair but thick, with each strand being felt when rubbed between fingers. Histiocytoma in dogs are fast-growing tumors. This transition will require additional diligence on your part but you will be rewarded with a coat that is much easier to maintain. Mats left unattended are painful and will rub against your dog's skin causing a burn, much like a rug burn which can lead to hot spots, which can then become infected or worse. You will need to be prepared to groom daily during this time! You should be combing your dog daily anyway but during this time if you are not, you will soon be clipping down your dog, as it will quickly become a mess. The problem with this coat change is that the hairs are loosened and become trapped in the undercoat and cause matting to occur quickly. Shedding at any other time is a cause of concern. This is the only time a Lhasa Apso will shed, as the breed is not generally a shedding dog. ![]() You may notice mats beginning to form quickly in days or in just hours it seems! Your puppy is shedding it's baby coat and the coat is maturing. ![]() ![]() You may begin to think your dog is shedding because suddenly hair is being lost. You may hear the term he's "blowing his coat" and this does not mean blowing a coat dry but instead means blowing out (or losing) the old coat. This is where your puppy loses it's puppy coat which is replaced by the more coarsely textured, adult coat. Discoes father began graying around the muzzle at around 3-3.5 years old. Coat change is not the same as color change! While not all Lhasa Apsos will experience a color change, all will go through a coat change between the ages of 8 and 15 months. Depends a lot on the dogs genetics, really. While Apple was competing – and losing market share – to Windows PCs, Macs were still the de facto standard in many graphic design and publishing businesses. Eventually, LocalTalk connectors would give way to Ethernet, whose cost of implementation dropped as more PCs shipped with Ethernet jacks pre-installed.īy the late 1990s, PostScript laser printers were a fact of life in just about every office in the country. The pace of this connectivity accelerated after Farallon Computing released its PhoneNet adapter, a LocalTalk-compatible device that used less-expensive twisted-pair telephone cables.įor many years, Macs and LaserWriters (and then later, many other brands of printers) were networked together in perfect harmony, while PCs and other devices struggled to have any connectivity. Macs and LaserWriters could be connected easily using LocalTalk boxes, creating de facto office networks overnight. Computer networking was big and complicated to use, but LocalTalk changed that. ![]() The other remaining piece of the puzzle came shortly after that when Aldus created PageMaker, the first widely popular desktop publishing application.Īpple introduced another genuinely disruptive technology in the LaserWriter by making it networkable. ![]() Embedding PostScript in the LaserWriter, Apple kickstarted the desktop publishing market into existence. ![]() Steve Jobs and Apple had worked out an arrangement to license the then-fledging PostScript technology, a programming language that made it much easier and more cost-effective for computers to produce detailed, scalable images and text. At about $7,000, the LaserWriter was more affordable and more capable. In fact, Hewlett-Packard had only introduced its desktop laser printer a couple of years earlier, for about $12,000. Enter the LaserWriter, Apple’s first laser printer.Ī black and white laser printer is mundane by today’s standards, but at the time, it was revolutionary. They were slow, very noisy, and produced lousy-looking copy. Personal computers and printers had gone together for years, but state of the art was still dot-matrix printers. Less than a year after Apple released the Mac, Apple introduced a groundbreaking product called the LaserWriter. To get some perspective on this, let’s set the WABAC machine for 1985. Apple hasn’t needed its own line of networking gear for many years, but let’s remember how truly disruptive AirPort was. Apple says once its current stock of supplies is depleted, that’s it. It's a complete enough walloping that Apple even sells a pricey Linksys mesh networking system in its retail stores, alongside the few Airport Expresses and Extremes that it hasn’t yet cleared out of its warehouses.Last week Apple made official news we’d suspected for a very long time: It’s discontinued the AirPort line of network routers. The good news is that over the last few years a new wave of so-called mesh network systems, which deploy multiple units throughout your home for can’t-miss coverage, have caught up to Apple in design and far surpassed it in functionality and coverage. Like so many Apple products, they were imperfect and expensive, but they were also reliable, and they did about as much as most people needed them to. ![]() Time Capsule, especially, provided one-stop, no-muss backup for people who didn’t want to fiddle with external hard drives. Apple’s routers may not have had as many features or as much horsepower their peers, but you didn’t have to think twice about them and they looked nice, at a time when most other options caused near-constant hassles and mostly resembled alien robot spiders. Rather than mourn the end of an era, take the chance to give your home Wi-Fi a boost with one of these newer, better alternatives.Įven if the official end of the Airport era was a long time coming, it's still a shame. That’s so many iPhones ago! This week, the company made it official: It will no longer churn out Airport Express, Extreme, or Time Capsule routers. Close observers of Apple’s networking products-surely they exist-know that the company hasn’t updated its Airport line of Wi-Fi routers since 2013. Also gotta love the sizes, much closer to an acoustic kit. Hi hat seems to be much better now with single pad and clutch trigger. The new Strike Pro SE seems to be an improvement over the legacy Strike Pro kit. I might be just a little worried about that kick drum and how it “feels”. Since the shells are brand new who knows what you’re getting. Makes it feel a little more like an acoustic kit. I totally love the standard hardware setup with double braces stances. ![]() I might also consider buying a Drum-Tec 13” or 14” snare down the line ($400) and moving the 12” snare to up/down tom position. ![]() If it were me I’d run VST software through the TD-17 module to spruce things up a bit (I believe Get Good Drums is still running a deal to grab their Modern & Massive library for like $66- a steal - use code INDOORS33). Roland isn’t known for great drum sounds for the most part. You also get smaller drum pads and small cymbals- the 13” ride is a drag. If you don't notice or care much about the digital snare/ride, then so be it! But maybe go back and jam again keeping in mind what everyone here has said.Roland brand gives you durability, a decent (not great) module and brand reputation( read: higher resell value). It sounds like everything other than brand reputation on quality is pointing you toward the Alesis, which is completely fine. I really want the extra cymbal, the extra floor tom, the extra 1000 wacky sounds - but damn that Roland felt closer to an acoustic. This is clearly all subjective seeing as you felt more comfortable on the Alesis. I so badly wanted to make a decision that I was buying the Alesis - but I just felt so much more comfortable on the Roland. I went into a store the other day looking for every reason to buy the Alesis - I didn't even have any others in mind until the employee showed me the Roland. ![]() It really does just depend on what you value most. I don't think there's a right answer either way you will buy a kit, be very happy with it and make the most of it. I have the exact same dilemma I'm going to buy one of these two kits within the next 1-2 weeks. Would this be worth it? I mean, if Roland is really that durable, it shouldn't be an issue right? Or would it be better to play it safe and pay full price and get the 2 year warranty with it? Maybe I could convince them to knock off an extra £50-100. I can actually get a used kit for £2049 (ex demo). UPDATE: I am now leaning more towards the TD27KV, for reasons I will explain later. Tried them both out for 3-4 hours each, still torn. So I think its helpful to just get peoples overall opinions on it. You certainly can't customise the kit sounds to their full potential in that situation, or see how different the experience is with VST. I might have to go to the music shop one last time in order to really make up my mind- but at the same time there's only so much you can do when trying them out. Is there anything else that I need to consider? Am I mistaken in thinking that the latency and digital ride and snare isn't THAT big of a deal- or that Alesis have fixed a lot of the durbaility issues? Is one better that the other when it comes to recording specifically (ie covers), particularly if using VST? I know that the Roland kit is also supposed to be better in terms of latency- but is this even noticeable? I also understand that one of the main selling points of this Roland kit is the digital snare and ride- but is that really enough to offset all of the good things about the Strike, and for more money? I certainly didn't notice much of a difference with the ride and snare when I was playing it- maybe EVER SO SLIGHTLY, but not really enough to win me over completely. ![]() I know that Roland has a better reputation when it comes to durability, but it does seem like Alesis have sorted a lot of the problems of their previous kits with this one. I also like the feel of the drum heads more (less bouncy), though I'm sure I could get used to the Roland heads. Bigger drums, more drums, better sounds, and all for £500 less. My initial thoughts are that I prefer the Alesis. I have actually spent a good 3 or 4 hours on both these kits (though still can't make up my mind). I am mostly in to hard Rock/heavy metal, so playing double Bass is a must. So, the kit will mostly be used to simply practice on- though I would also like to record drum covers. Drums, for me, is ultimately a hobby- though it is something that I do care about a lot and something I want to get very good at (I am a singer first and foremost, however). I am, I would say, an intermediate level drummer. I am in a bit of a dilemma right now in trying to decide between these two kits, so if anyone can help me to make up my mind, it would be greatly appreciated.
